Endoscopy under general anesthesia: material 'slipper[y] and friable', could not be gripped, pushed into the stomach

Radiograph (5:07 AM): 'esophageal foreign body visible near base of heart'. Under general anesthesia the endoscopist found 'the foreign material ... in multiple pieces throughout the esophagus, with the largest occluding piece at the base of the heart', tried rat-tooth forceps and a snare loop but 'was unable to obtain a grip on the material, as it was slipper and friable', and pushed the largest piece and 'a remaining long piece' into the stomach. Mucosal irritation in the esophagus at the base of the heart and at the esophageal sphincter. Owner present throughout. Per the owner: a separate solid piece passed intact during the procedure, and the veterinarian said she had never been so mad at a treat.
